AFFORDING CHA

At Chatsworth Hills Academy, we understand that the cost of attending an independent school is a significant investment in your child's educational future. Recognizing that every situation is unique, we are committed to working with each family to find ways of making a CHA education affordable.

We encourage all families not to let concerns about the cost prevent them from learning more about the extraordinary benefits our students receive from their CHA education. Please join with us in exploring the ways our Flexible Tuition Program can make this education affordable. Our School is committed to all types of diversity and to extending flexible tuition grants for students in Pre-Kindergarten - Grade 8.

Because every family's financial situations and obligations are different, there is no income cutoff for Flexible Tuition. If you think that you would qualify and if either a small or large reduction would help, you are encouraged to apply.

Request a Flexible Tuition Application as soon as you realize you will need tuition assistance to attend CHA for the 2007-2008 academic year. Please tell the Admissions Counselor that you intend to apply for Flexible Tuition. The time frame for applying moves rapidly, and any delay can jeopardize your child's chances of receiving a grant. For timely processing, your Parent Financial Statement (PFS) should arrive in Princeton by March 9, 2008, or you may also apply online at nais.org.

Your 2006 and/or 2007 (if available) Federal Income tax returns (1040 and all attachments) need to be turned in to the Business Office as early in the new year as possible (preferably by March 7, 2008). Materials received after this date will continue to be most welcomed, but funds may be diminished due to grants made to those filing by March 7, 2008. Since only completed Flexible Tuition Applications will be considered, it is important to honor all deadlines.

If you are divorced and the student lives with you and your income is low but your former spouse has significant financial resources, you may still qualify. While all resources available to the students are considered in the Flexible Tuition award, legal decisions regarding tuition are taken into consideration. If you are remarried, your spouse's income (i.e., your child's stepparent) applies to the Flex calculations. All resources are considered as family resources.

If you are self-employed and cannot submit your tax returns by the deadline, you can approximate your taxes and submit to us that information. Any award made will be conditional upon receipt of the returns and subject to reconciliation with the new information provided.

CHA only takes into account income from 2006 and 2007, and awards are made on that basis for the 2008-2009 academic year. We cannot anticipate what may or may not happen in the future. If a family qualifies for more Flexible Tuition in the following year, they are typically given preference for an additional amount of award.

Tuition and Fees for the 2008-2009 school year:

  • Early Childhood $7,200 - $10,870
  • Lower School $13,800 - $14,770
  • Middle School $14,770 - $15,770

The application fee for Beginner/Intermediate is $25 and $75 for Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. There is also an annual registration fee of $200 for Beginner and Intermediate classes. For students in the Lower and Middle Schools (Kindergarten through Grade 8), there is a one-time New Family Fee of $1,500. Tuition covers instructional costs during the academic day. Families may also incur extra fees for other expenses, depending on the grade level, which include but are not limited to: textbooks (Middle School), PE uniforms, class trips, dances, class photos, yearbook, and extended day care.

Flexible Payment Options:

There are several payment options for CHA families.
  • Payment in Full: All tuition is paid by July 1 before the school year begins.
  • The Two-Payment Plan: Fifty percent of tuition is due by July 1, prior to the opening of school. Families pay the remaining 50 percent by December 1.
  • The Monthly Payment Plan: Families pay tuition in ten equal installments from July 1 through April 1.

Tuition Refund Plan

Because the financial commitment of enrollment is for an entire year, CHA offers a Tuition Refund Plan. For a charge of 3.5 percent of tuition, parents ensure themselves against limited liability for unpaid tuition in the event of early withdrawal.
